Mapping the Impacts of Typhoon Goni in Catanduanes
Extreme rainfall exceeding 150 mm during Typhoon Goni caused flooding in low-lying municipalities of Catanduanes with elevations below 10 meters above sea level. The estimated flood extent reached approximately 4.3 km², affecting around 1,577 people, or less than 1% of the province’s population. The typhoon also resulted in widespread damage to built-up areas, with more than 10,000 houses reported damaged across the province. Spatial mapping of these impacts highlights localized flood exposure and the importance of integrating elevation and rainfall data in disaster risk assessment.
