The Geomatics for Environment and Development (GED) Program engages in transdisciplinary cross-program research, especially with the Regional Climate Systems (RCS) Program and affiliated scientists or research fellows. It applies remote sensing and geographic information systems (RS-GIS) in these collaborative endeavors. Its staff have expertise in geoinformatics engineering as may be applied in various fields of study.
Categories and specific areas of RS-GIS application are, as follows:
DISCIPLINE: Upper atmosphere, solid earth dynamics, climate studies, social and environmental science
ELEMENTS: Earth, wind, water, fire, animal habitats, human settlements
THEME/SECTOR: Energy, agriculture, industry, commerce, infrastructure
MILIEU: Urban, rural, rurban, regional, sub-regional
ECOSYSTEM: Marine, coastal zone, terrestrial, lowland, upland and mountain
